Samsung MLCC Sales up 37% in June Quarter On Sequential Basis; Up 49% YoY
Through a combination of favorable pricing and advanced Multilayered Ceramic Chip Capacitor (MLCC) technology, Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEMCO) increased MLCC sales by 37% on a sequential basis in the Quarter ending June 30th 2009. MLCC sales at Samsung increased from 214 billion won in the March quarter to 293 billion won in the June quarter. On a year-over-year basis, MLCC sales in the June 2009 quarter were up by 49% compared to the same quarter in 2008. The company is on a run-rate to sell 1,100 billion Won in MLCC for the full year, up from 592 billion Won in 2008. The company’s success in a down economy is significant. SEMCO has increased market share in the global MLCC business from 7% in Fiscal Year 2008 to 11% in Fiscal Year 2009, and this will grow to an estimated 18% by FY 2010. The company is well positioned in selling MLCC into specific high growth end-use markets such as Smartphones, Flat Panel Television Sets and Digital Cameras, also the company has successfully matched MLCC high capacitance technology coming from Japan; and is now poised to advance beyond and become a technological leader in the field. This was exemplified in April 2009 with SEMCO’s release of their 1 microfarad 0603 case size MLCC, which is considered a technical milestone in capacitor manufacturing.
